20/20 Plumbing & Heating Celebrates Women in Construction

An employee-owned company made up of people from all walks of life, 20/20 Plumbing & Heating, Inc. derives its strength from the contributions of varied employee-owners who are stakeholders in our company’s future. From our inception, we have implemented initiatives designed to recruit, develop and retain diverse talent. The women of 20/20 are integral to the successful delivery of our award-winning plumbing and HVAC services, and you will find them serving in key roles in our offices, fabrication facilities and on job sites.

Since 1998, Women in Construction Week has celebrated the roles of women in the construction industry. In keeping with this year’s theme, “Many Paths, One Mission,” we are honoring the women of 20/20 by highlighting their outstanding contributions to our company.

Hear from a few of our women colleagues as they share their experiences, advice for future generations and the ways they are overcoming the gender gap in the construction industry:

ROXANNE MASHHADI

MULTI-FAMILY PLUMBING PROJECT MANAGER

“My construction career began 22 years ago, and I have been a Plumbing Project Manager for nearly a decade. I have learned to be dedicated, passionate and confident in my work. Applying those components will make you successful regardless of your gender. Being a female in construction may come with tests and quizzes by field operations from time to time, but I welcome it!”

YOLANDA ROCHA

SINGLE-FAMILY ROUGH FOREMAN

“When I came into this company, it wasn’t common for a female to go out in the field and do Rough, so when my foreman and superintendent at the time decided it was a good idea to ‘give it a shot,’ that was the beginning of my new career. Hard work and never giving up put me in a position where they felt like I was ready for the next step. So, I guess the advancement opportunities given to me are my superintendents believing in me. They know my goals and where I want to get, and as long as they see I am capable, the sky is the limit.”

MALLORY WATSON

MULTI-FAMILY PLUMBING PROJECT ENGINEER

“I have been working in the construction industry for 16 years. I enjoy working alongside our field team and helping where and when needed. I have been fortunate to have great bosses who push, guide, and encourage me to immerse myself in different positions within the Commercial Division. I learn something new daily, and I am proud to be a woman in this industry.”

ANA MONTEJO

FABRICATION FOREMAN

“Life has been hard for me, and I work like life has been to me — hard. I started construction in 2015 as a carpenter and moved on to 20/20 Plumbing & Heating. Here I have found my passion and growth. My father told me the future is like a tree — you must first plant your seed, and water it daily to see it grow. Life will give you the fruit you produce. The method is to know YOU CAN! Start late, start over, be unsure and uncertain, look different, act different, try and fail, and you can still succeed in life!”

BECKY DEE

CORPORATE PROJECT MANAGER

“I have been working in the construction industry for over 24 years! I was taught that hard work pays off and to never be afraid to get my hands dirty. Being a woman in construction requires you to have a loud presence and to be confident in your knowledge. Though most of my skills are behind a computer screen, I love getting my hands dirty! I enjoy learning new things about our industry and finding ways to support the field’s needs. I have gained the respect of the field with my dedication to our company and trades. I will continue to build my knowledge and be a strong advocate for women wanting to work in the industry.”

While women make up nearly half of our nation’s workforce (47%), the most recent U.S. Bureau of Labor statistics show that there are 10 men for every one woman in the construction field. At 20/20, we are shattering stereotypes for women in construction by giving them equal opportunities and wages. We welcome women in every role in our company — as tradespeople, project managers, engineers, account managers and so much more — because we value their unique skills and diverse perspectives that make our products and services exceptional.

The National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) was founded in 1953 with a core purpose of strengthening and amplifying women in the construction industry. According to a recent NAWIC survey, 71% of respondents agree that the opportunities for women in construction are increasing. We think so too! By enthusiastically supporting women in our organization, we hope they will inspire the next generation of women to participate in the rewarding and successful careers that exist in STEM fields and construction trades.

The spirit of Women in Construction Week is alive at 20/20, not just for a single week in March, but every day. Whether they are wearing a hard hat and boots, sitting at a computer or working face-to-face with our customers, the women of 20/20 are essential to delivering plumbing and HVAC expertise to specialized projects.
