Our Role In A Recent Project Supporting The Veteran Community
20/20 Plumbing & Heating (20/20) recently completed a project for SHARE Village Las Vegas, a nonprofit organization serving veterans and their families by providing food, toiletries and hygiene products, bottled water, diapers, pet food and supplies, and other essential items. The project involved installing quality plumbing into brand new shipping containers.
How This Project Was Different
For this project, the engineering and planning department had to design a plumbing system that could fit into a standard-sized shipping container, while still maintaining high standards of quality and reliability.
Unlike typical homes, the containers have metal framing, instead of wood, and have a full fire sprinkler system installed. 20/20 plumbing employees had to make some adjustments to their typical process and the project turned out to be a success.
The Process
The containers were all brand new and had never been used for shipping or storage of any kind. Once the containers were received, they were fully inspected for welding and structure so that 20/20 engineers and designers could create a custom plumbing system.
The finished homes are powered with solar energy and use a macerator system for plumbing. A macerator is a relatively new plumbing approach that involves sending waste to a unit behind the toilet in a large container or in a container in the wall. High-powered blades liquefy the waste, which is then pumped out of the unit through a pipe that is connected directly to the main drain line.
A macerator toilet is more expensive than a standard toilet, but is a better option for homes located off the grid because it eliminates the need to create and build an entirely new plumbing system.
In this particular project, the only fixture not running through the macerator is the shower, which is plumbed conventionally.
Giving Back
Working on the project for SHARE Village Las Vegas was an excellent opportunity for the 20/20 team to demonstrate its appreciation for veterans. 20/20 is happy to serve those who have given their lives to protect the company’s freedom to do business and prosper.
