When PATH (People Assisting the Homeless) Ventures broke ground on Villas at South Gate, a 60-unit affordable apartment community designed to accommodate veterans and men and women with fragile health who are moving out of homelessness, 20/20 Plumbing & Heating, Inc, was there to help. 20/20 was the mechanical contractor of choice to providing end to end HVAC installation for this community needs-driven project.

This modern complex is made of up 60 residential units, including 31 studio units, 28 one-bedroom units and 1 two-bedroom manager’s unit. Also on site are offices, community rooms and outdoor spaces. The beautiful public areas feature an outdoor living room with seating, tables and gardening space, where residents can visit with neighbors and feel a sense of community. All apartments are pet-friendly, and each has its own patio for private outdoor space.

Located in a light industrial area, the four-story structure has an on-trend urban vibe, with corrugated metal cladding on the facade. Drought-tolerant landscaping throughout the complex is both sustainable and softens the look of the exterior, making Villas at South Gate feel like a welcoming place to call home.

This community is designed to ensure that every resident will get the support they need to remain healthy and housed. Mental health and supportive services are readily available through partnerships between PATH, the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health and the L A County Department of Military and Veterans Affairs.

PATH started in 1983, with a letter written by Claire and Rev. Charles Orr, asking the community to address the growing problem of homelessness. In response, a group organized and began distributing food and clothing to people living on the streets. More than 30 years later, PATH provides services in more than 150 cities in five regions with the mission of ending homelessness for individuals, families and communities. Following the Housing First model, PATH connects people to permanent housing and then focuses on stabilization through voluntary supportive services, including case management, medical and mental healthcare, benefits advocacy, employment training, and other services that help residents maintain housing stability. Currently, PATH has seven new communities in pre-development, with a total of 648 new units.

A testament to its goodwill, PATH holds a Three-Year Accreditation from CARF International, an independent, nonprofit accreditor of health and human services providers in the areas of Aging Services, Behavioral Health, Child and Youth Services, Durable Medical Equipment, Employment and Community Services, Medical Rehabilitation, Opioid Treatment Programs, and Vision Rehabilitation Services.
